CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTORS

What is carbon monoxide?

Carbon monoxide (CO) is an odorless, colorless, tasteless and highly toxic gas. It is produced when flame-fueled devices, such as heating systems, power tools, grills and ovens, malfunction or are not properly vented.

What happens if CO is inhaled?

The CO will instantly absorb into the bloodstream, replacing the oxygen traveling to vital organs throughout the body. Depending on the concentration of CO in the air and the length of exposure, effects can include a mild headache, drowsiness, nausea, dizziness, unconsciousness and suffocation.

What are common sources of  CO ?

  • Improperly maintained  or faulty gas oven range or cook top vents

  • Blocked or clogged chimney

  • Gas and wood burning fireplaces

  • Cracked heat exchanger; leaking, cracked, corroded, or disconnected flue or vent pipes

  • Auto exhaust fumes from attached garage

  • Operating barbeque grill in an enclosed area such as a garage

  • Un-vented gas space heaters

What are the symptoms of  CO exposure?

CO Concentration
(parts per million)

SYMPTOMS

50    No adverse effects with 8 hours of exposure
800    Headache, nausea, dizziness, after 45 minutes of exposure
Collapse and unconsciousness after 2 hours
1000    Loss of consciousness after 1 hour
6400    Headache and dizziness after 1-2 minutes of exposure
Unconsciousness and danger of death after 10-15 minutes

How do CO detectors protect residents from CO poisoning?

CO detectors protect residents by monitoring the air and measuring the amount of CO present over a time interval. When dangerous levels are calculated, CO detectors flash and sound a temp-4 alarm. Some CO detectors can be connected to the initiating circuit of a control panel that, in turn, can be connected to notification appliances and retransmitted to a central station.

What are the benefits of a monitored CO detector?

CO detectors monitored by a central station provide extra protection and ease of mind when residents are sleeping; when pets, children and elderly are alone; when the residence is empty; or when residents are already suffering the effects from CO. If a problem arises with the detector or the CO concentration hits a dangerous level, the owner will not only be notified by the detector and the control panel, but also by the central station. If the owner is unreachable, the central station will send the proper authorities to investigate.

COMBUSTIBLE GAS DETECTORS

The GD-2A is a low voltage all electronic detector of combustible gases, that has been evaluated by UL for methane (natural) and propane (LP) gas. The GD-2A is designed for connection to UL Listed alarm control panels

LOW TEMPERATURE SENSORS

Detect heat loss in your home before pipes freeze and burst doing thousands of dollars worth of damage.

Honeywell's feature-rich TS300 was engineered to meet the demands of a wide range of applications. From florists and butchers to pet shops, computer centers and residences, the TS300 provides uncompromising performance.

FLOOD  DETECTION

Highly recommended for monitoring summer homes and homes left unattended due to frequent travel.

The model WB-200 operates on 12 or 24 Volt AC/DC and has a form C relay output that can be connected to alarm panels, bells, dialers, etc. The unit can monitor up to as many as six sensors up to hundreds of feet away, depending on the wire used. Each sensor has surface contacts that detect the first appearance of water forming a film on the floor. The sensor will not alarm due to condensation or high humidity. One standard surface sensor is included with the unit.

Typical Applications:

  • Residential or Vacation Homes

  • Basement Sump Pumps

  • Commercial Buildings

  • Office and Computer Areas
